Where are you spending time in your business?

Today, I got an email that my website hosting service will renew in a couple of weeks. It reminded me of the first time I started working on this site.

When I started my business, I really focused a lot of time on creating the perfect website — having links for people to connect with me, great pictures and bright colors, everything branded just right, and lots of great content.

I even created a couple blogs!

To start off, I had a wonderful contact form. I added all the bells and whistles. I included some videos, and everything looked so, so good.

But when I took a step back, I realized that nothing was going to happen unless I shared my content far and wide — who I am and where they can find me. People were not just going to randomly Google my brand new business name, Bright Moments, and find me on a whim.

I really had to market my business and point them in that direction for them to find that value.

So my question is, where are you spending time in your business that really won't get good results? Are you putting the cart before the horse? Are you focusing on things that look great on paper (or online) but have no actual value for clients?

Your website will not get anyone any sort of solution or value unless you've already put your actual content and what you offer on your site.

This is like most things in business — you have to kind of work backward.

So, you want to have the content that you give away or can give away for free, it has to really be high value. Whether it's free or for a low fee or your actual paid offers, have that information on hand. Then, you build things around it.

And it's okay if you don't have a full-blown website! Keep it simple and grow as your needs expand.

You can have a landing page, a basic about me page, and a contact form to get rolling. Or even add some basic information on your social media to share your philosophy and services with people. The idea is that you give them something of value and show that you have the thing they need before you create a bunch of fluff and design something that is really just the modern-day Yellow Pages.

Your time is so valuable. And you will be pulled in so many directions as a business owner. So make the smart move to do the things that will be high value and increase your results, which will ultimately increase your brand awareness, income, and your service to others.
